Poverty Moving To The Suburbs

According to the 2000 Census, suburbs around Philadelphia are seeing an increase in lower-income residents.

"For many, the image of the Philadelphia suburbs is one of great affluence, of stucco and stone mansions gracing landscaped lawns and SUVS parked in long driveways. But at the same time, there is a small but growing number of families with a child under 18 who are poor or just making it, according to social service agencies and 2000 census data released in May.. For many of these families, housing subsidies are a critical part of the equation."
