" Cape Cod is a peaceful place that, ironically, stirs intense differences even though people go there for relief from the hard edges of daily life. To many, that means languorous afternoons sunning on a quiet beach, lulled by the surf. Or catnapping in a shaded hammock. This summer contingent seeks refuge from the madding crowd. Another seeks escape on populous beaches and darkened dance floors in seasonable crowds of like-minded revelers. The common goal is cooling down, easing off. Yet no amount of loosening up can stem the strong feelings that the Cape provokes, sharp opinions about almost everything - this town, that beach, or the fried-fish shack that opened down the street last year. The Cape brings out the personal, as you will see in the following, often passionate perspectives on everything from tranquil kettle ponds to Provincetown street life to the bold claim that Wareham is more Cape-like than Cape Cod itself."
