A Dallas economic development plan called "GrowSouth"—spearheaded by the office of Mayor Mike Rawlings—removed a record number of blighted and nuisance structures in 2014.
According to Elizabeth Findell, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings recently "capped a celebration of the city’s 272nd demolition of a nuisance structure in 2014," which is a record for the city.
The demolitions "occurred as part of the 'culture of clean' elements of Rawlings’ GrowSouth economic development effort. Dallas has ripped down 941 unsafe, unoccupied structures in the last four years, according to the city."
Mayor Rawlings's website has more information about the GrowSouth economic development plan.
