"Like most in their neighborhood on the District's eastern border with Montgomery County, both preach the gospel of smart growth: In an age of suburban sprawl and choking traffic, new homes must be built in close-in neighborhoods, near mass transit. But when Metro tried two years ago to sell the park and a parking lot at the Takoma station to a townhouse developer many said no."
