"The building would be the cornerstone of a new cultural district envisioned in Fort Greene by the Brooklyn Academy of Music Local Development Corporation. Harvey Lichtenstein, chairman of the corporation and member of the jury that chose the design, said the new library would be a beacon, "making things transparent" and "inviting people to come in."
