Government agencies offer a variety of suggestions to alleviate congestion on one of Los Angeles' most congested freeway.
This article reports on suggestions from government agencies to alleviate congestion on the Long Beach Freeway, including elevated trucklanes, carpool lanes and a high-speed rail line. Because 710 was designedin 1950s and assumed that cars would represent the majority of traffic, thehighway is ill prepared to service the many trucks hauling cargo forseaside ports. In the idea stage only, the alternatives submitted totransportation officials and local policy-makers along Interstate 710 didnot include price tags and would likely require funding approval by a stateor regional transit agency. The committee reviewing the proposals willnarrow the options to five before choosing the final plan next spring.
