When planners and developers work together, the result can be greater than the sum of its parts, argues a Dallas News editorial.
"These properties have added thousands of people to the activity potential in a one-time dark corner of downtown Dallas. However, to translate potential into activity, the city has to ensure these new downtown dwellers don't just hop in their cars and head out after the initial novelty of living downtown has passed. The area has to draw residents and workers alike. The city has the opportunity to do this by aggressively pursuing full development of the Farmers Market and by updating plans for the area's development district... The city must be able to control development -- before unwanted development occurs -- so that everyone can benefit."
