"To be completed this month, the new signs will bring a touch of Times Square to the once-gilded mile between the New York Public Library and Central Park. But the owners of 666 Fifth Avenue see the signs...as a reaffirmation of corporate commitment at a precarious time in civic history... 'It's too bad that this company feels it has to flaunt itself in that way,' said the architect Robert A. M. Stern, a leading champion of the preservation of mid-century design."
