Looking beyond current hipster meccas Austin, Brooklyn, Silver Lake, and Portland, Modery proposes four prime candidates and three runner-ups for hipsterfication.

Her prime candidate list includes Chattanooga, Tennessee, for its sustainability and graphic design bona fides; Asheville, North Carolina for its bluegrass music scene; Burlington, Vermont, for its hippie-to-hipster transformation; and Detroit, Michigan for its low cost of living and adaptive reuse potential.
