Landmark Designation: A Dump In Fresno?

"It's really a great story of trash to treasure." The National Park Service recommended a Fresno Dump for Landmark status.

Historic landmark status is given to sites that reflect a part of America's history and culture. But when the report for Fresno got to the Interior Secretary, it omitted mention of methane, motor oil and other pollutants that put the dump on the Superfund list in 1989. Other gritty landmarks already appear on the landmark list: a mill in Silverton, Colorado and Butte, Montana, for example. The dump has been removed from the list pending further inquiry.
