Basketball legend Bill Walton will share his life story and inspire your leadership abilities both on and off the economic development court at the International Economic Development Council's 2011 Leadership Summit, January 23-25, in San Diego, CA.

Walton will explore how characteristics of teamwork, perseverance, hard work, and a positive attitude can be employed to create personal growth and professional success in economic development.

Bill Walton has returned to the city of San Diego to give back to his local community. Walton has made his niche with the creation of San Diego Sport Innovators (SDSI), a business accelerator that connects and drives the growth of the city's sports economy by offering supportive and innovative programs and services for start ups, mature companies and service providers. Years of experience on the court and off have taught him the importance of preparation, and the importance of seizing the moment when the real game begins in the world of business.

Walton knows the significance of strong leadership. He played as a member of three of the most successful basketball teams of all time, and his coaches included six Hall of Famers. Plagued with a debilitating speech impediment, Walton overcame adversity to become an award-winning, critically-acclaimed broadcaster and commentator on national television. He will share his lessons in optimism, self-realization and the celebration of life that exemplifies Walton's multi-faceted and diverse careers.
