The expectation was to put students, professors and high-tech firms together on 185 acres next to UC Irvine. The goal was to spawn new technologies. But the tech firms are cutting back and pulling out of their leases. There is a fear that the developer will begin leasing to firms with no relationship to the university or the purpose for building there.
