As reported earlier this year on Planetizen, the bar cars on Metro-North Railroad's Connecticut trains: train cars were hitting retirement age, and it looked like no replacements were coming for the pubs on wheels. But wait- there's hope yet!
The Wall St. Journal reports that "Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell is asking the state's bond commission to approve $226 million in borrowing to buy 80 more new railcars-seven of which will have their rows of seats stripped out and turned into rolling bars, a state spokesman said."
Rather than the previous open floor plan, the replacement bar cars will look more like a traditional bar with seating, which some is riling some regulars that like the social aspect of the previous model.
