Success in San Francisco Alleyways

"Cities, particularly very dense cities, create engaging, interesting, and exciting spatial experiences. Alleys can be one of the most fascinating components of that urban fabric. San Francisco is such a city; its density and proliferation of alleys has allowed development, both planned and unplanned, to occur in ways that have alternately been described as 'quaint' and 'hip'."

Whether they've formed organically over thee years or through direct encouragement from city policies, a number of activated alleys in San Francisco show that these often overlooked urban areas can play a valuable role in the urban realm.
