In this Op-Ed article, Candice Guth outlines how the state is actually encouraging growth.
"We're told that growth is good! Some have made millions on land speculation, and some of us do have better paying jobs. But most of us are not benefiting from growth. Do we have better quality lives? Do we have better schools, safer communities and cleaner air? . . . Right now, state laws require that we grow, requiring all cities to have a 20-year supply of land to build on, and building moratoria are not allowed unless they are temporary -- such as one caused by the lack of a water supply. Because of that law, Wilsonville is now preparing to drink from the Willamette -- deformed fish or not."
