The Demographic Analysis Workshop will teach participants to perform in-depth demographic studies using Federal Census data including the new American Community Survey data. Participants will learn what information is available and how to easily extract the specific, up-to-date data they need for proposal writing or planning purposes. The workshop includes instruction on Thematic Mapping of key demographic variables such as poverty, income, race, age, ancestry, educational attainment, disabilities, etc. using free software from the Census Bureau.

Workshop Description - (Two Day Class) Using Census Data in GIS Mapping (ArcGIS 9.2)

The two day GIS workshop focuses on using census data in Geographic Information System (GIS) software to create compelling, detailed maps of your community. The workshop gives you hands-on, practical experience in ArcGIS software. The GIS workshop will provide both beginning and intermediate GIS users with the techniques, tips, tricks and shortcuts necessary to produce advanced demographic maps.

The teaching philosophy of the workshops is very much "hands-on" - during the workshop, each student has access to their own PC on the internet and will learn to create a compelling demographic profile (including maps) of the community of their choice. Please note: the workshops do NOT require any software purchase.

Cost includes all materials and access to a PC on the Internet during class. All Workshop participants will receive a workbook, resource CD's and the use of a PC during class.
