Washington DC Selects INDEX for Visioning Tool
Criterion Planners
The Urban Land Institute's Washington District Council, in partnership with the Smart Growth Alliance, has selected INDEX Paint the Region as its support tool for the Reality Check growth visioning project. According to Executive Director Laura Cole, "We need an interactive tool that encourages collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and Paint the Region is ideally suited for the real-time scenario simulation and impact assessment required by our process." Reality Check will convene 300 business, environmental, and civic leaders to determine where and how three million new households and jobs can be accommodated in the rapidly-growing D.C. region by 2030.
Reality Check joins similar regional planning processes being supported by INDEX tools in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Kansas City, and Grand Rapids. INDEX is a suite of interactive GIS tools for designing land-use and transportation scenarios, and evaluating their performance with indicators and stakeholder ratings. In addition to Paint the Region, other INDEX tools include Paint the Town, PlanBuilder, and PlanWorks.
