Alliance for Regional Stewardship

The Alliance for Regional Stewardship (ARS) and Envision Utah are pleased to announce the upcoming National Forum on Regional Stewardship, to be held at the Hotel Monaco in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference begins the morning of Thursday, November 11th; participants have the option of attending two local initiative tours the afternoon of Wednesday, November 10th.

Since May 2000, ARS has convened a National Forum on Regional Stewardship every six months. Each Forum is hosted by a particular region that partners with ARS to provide content and speakers for the Forum. These meetings bring together leaders from the business, government, education, and nonprofit/community-based sectors to share experiences and learn from each other about practical, collaborative and innovative approaches to addressing common regional challenges. The format is highly interactive to facilitate participation, exchange and learning.

This November's National Forum on Regional Stewardship will highlight the winner of the 2004 Gold Regional Stewardship Award – the Greater Wasatch Region of Utah. The forum will address the theme "Selling the Vision, Creating the Reality," to spotlight progress the region has made in making their vision a reality. The opening session on Thursday, November 11th, titled "The Greater Wasatch Region – Challenges and Initiatives" will highlight the challenges the region has faced as well as the initiatives that have been employed to address those challenges.

Participants will also learn about Envision Utah and the progress this organization has made in bringing the region together and in helping the region to engage in innovative and thoughtful endeavors. Case studies highlighting the Envision Utah Community Toolbox and the region's Quality Growth Strategy will be presented.

Other Forum sessions will spotlight regional initiatives from across the United States. Session titles include:

-- Great Places to Live – Creating Livable Communities
-- Sophisticated Media Campaigns to Promote Regional Needs
-- Approaches to Public and Stakeholder Involvement
-- Connecting Neighborhood/Community Redevelopment to Regional Development Strategies
-- Regional Business-led Civic Organizations

In addition to the sessions on Thursday and Friday, participants have the option of participating in two local initiatives tours on Wednesday, November 10th.
