Planners and businessmen in Tampa, FL have come together to bring high-tech industry to the area.
"City officials, heeding the advice of business leaders and entrepreneurs, are putting together plans to steer Tampa headfirst into the high-technology-driven "new economy." The city's planning and management department has started work on its Technology Development Initiative, a report looking at how the municipal government can encourage the growth of high-technology businesses. A draft of the report recommends government support for a technology business incubator - a program designed to support young and fledgling companies by providing office space, business and legal advice, and other start-up services. The draft also says Tampa officials should work to create an image for Tampa's high- tech business sector, and to promote Tampa as a place where these new economy companies can grow."
