"Affordable housing at the City Electric Steam plant property is back on the drawing board, as the utility and city officials attempt to figure out a way to convert the dilapidated facility into shelter for the island's working-class residents...Last week, the City of Key West gave its endorsement to an affordable-housing project in the area by way of a resolution favoring the transformation of the old industrial site into affordable-housing units. The development is also believed by many to be critical in helping anchor the development of the Key West Bight, which has been complicated by the failure of the proposed Buquebus terminal adjacent to the City Electric property at the corner of Grinnell and Greene streets."
