California Transit Measures Win

Both Alameda and Santa Clara Counties approved sales tax increases to fund transit measures, including the extension of BART to San Jose.

The overwhelming approval represents a monumental feat, for only two transportation initiatives have met the two-thirds requirement in California since the Supreme Court established the threshold in 1995. The measures received considerably more than the necessary two-thirds approval - 81% in Alameda and 70% in Santa Clara - to pass the measures, indicating how interested residents are in finding solutions to their transportation problems.
