An Urban Revival for a Suburban Culture

Though they have built them rapidly and at impressive scales, Americans have rarely cherished their cities, preferring more sylvan and less crowded conditions away from urban centers. Successive rings of new settlement haven't always strengthened preceding ones or benefited older central cores. Some observers have even suggested that the perpetual flow of people and resources to the perimeter has created an urban civilization without cities.
