Baby Boomers Reshaping Retirement Migration

Florida is no longer ground zero for retirees in the United States, as many western states, and even some mid-western ones, have seen an influx of aging boomers.

"Florida's decades-long grip on the retiree market is weakening, if only a little, as Americans broaden their home choices, census data studies show.

And it could weaken more, depending on what the baby boomers, the 78 million-strong generation born between 1946 and 1964, choose. Unprecedented in number, boomers have a history of reshaping the culture around them, and a reputation for rejecting their parents' preferences.

Today, many retirees and boomers nearing retirement are turning West, to states such as Nevada, Texas and Colorado. Some are even opting for places long known for exporting retirees, such as Michigan and Illinois."
