Planners, students and citizens participate in a two-day visioning session to create a road map for the future of Seattle's open space.
As Seattle's population continues to grow, how does the city remain livable? This is one of the questions "350 planners, architects, landscape architects, students, community activists, environmentalists and developers are tackling during two days of brainstorming and planning.
...The goal of the project was to come up with plans that could be used over the next five, 10 and 20 years, as well as a vision stretching a century.... The result could inspire a future parks levy and provide planning guidance to city departments and community groups, said organizers of the event -- dubbed "Open Space Seattle 2100."
...The project was inspired by the 2003 centennial of the plans for Seattle's system of parks and boulevards devised by renowned landscape architects, the Olmsted brothers. Rottle and others envisioned this as the next generation of planning."
