Regional planners paved the way yesterday for San Francisco and Oakland airports to build new runways out into San Francisco Bay.

San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and other airport supporters have argued that new runways are the answer to chronic delays, noise complaints from neighbors and the current inability to accommodate the next generation of larger aircraft. The accompanying report will serve as the basis for planning growth in Bay Area air traffic for the next 20 years.
