Do Urban Growth Controls Save Farms?

Banning urban development using urban limit lines may save farms but doesn't help to save farmers.

California is rapidly losing agricultural land to urban development and many areas are facing a dilemma: How can we house and employ growing populations without harming agriculture? Growth controls and urban limit lines aim to rein in sprawl and prevent paving of fields. However, banning urban development using growth controls may save farms but doesn't help to save farmers. "If agriculture is to survive...society must change its contract with farmers... it must help local agriculture thrive in the new global economy."
