The search to locate a new dump to replace the almost-full Tajiguas Landfill in Santa Barbara is narrowing to a few possible sites.
Environmental concerns and regulatory limits have led officials to cross off from initial consideration about 70 percent of the land in the county including the entire coastline. As they narrow their search, county officials are looking at areas that include the Gaviota foothills north of Highway 101, parts of the Santa Ynez Mountains from Lompoc to Lake Cachuma, ranch and farmland from Guadalupe to west of Orcutt, and land east of Santa Maria and in the Cuyama Valley.
