County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County serving 6 million people is considering the purchase of two landfills -- the Eagle Mountain Landfill east of Indio, CA, and the Mesquite Regional Landfill, near El Centro in Imperial County. The Eagle Mountain landfill is expected to bring in $879 million in fees to Riverside County during 50 years but is opposed by numerous groups including the Joshua Tree National Park staff.
