Designer fears that World Athletes Monument will be damaged by proposal.
A storm is brewing in the Southern USA over a proposal to sell a triangle of land to a developer. Not an unusual sale perhaps, but the land happens to contain a monument to the athletes who participated in the 1996 Olympic Games part funded by HRH The Prince of Wales. Further, the monument has since become a much-loved local landmark and ceremonial gathering point for Atlantans. In this special report exclusive to INTBAU the monument's designer, Russian-American architect Anton Glikin, speaks of his unease at the proposal which he feels will damage the monument. At stake is the collective memory of Atlantans and the urban regeneration that the monument has triggered.
