Manhattan’s housing crisis worsened this year, with vacancy rates hitting just above 2 percent and average rent rising to over $5,400 per month, reports Ryan Kushner in Smart Cities Dive.
“The housing crisis has left more than 45% of households rent-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing,” Kushner adds, citing the 2025 Housing Manhattanites report.
Recent rezoning efforts could help turn the crisis around, with thousands of new units in the works under ‘City of Yes’ zoning reforms.
