As SkyTrain retires its first fleet of cars, the agency is seeking innovative ways to repurpose the roughly 130 first-generation cars.
A former Vancouver rail car has been installed in a British Columbia film studio as a set piece, giving a second life to the retired SkyTrain car.
According to a press release from TransLink, “As the very first SkyTrain vehicles near the end of their service lives, and make way for new Mark V cars in the coming years, TransLink is inviting creative ideas to ensure these historic trains continue serving the region in fresh and innovative ways.”
The car will serve as a film-friendly subway train set that will make filming transit scenes easier.
The agency says it is seeking homes for roughly 130 retired Mark I cars and is accepting applications for creative ways to repurpose them.
