"The city is experimenting with solar-powered pay stations, popular in Europe and in use in New York and San Francisco, that take credit and debit cards....In a world where consumers swipe a card for groceries and gasoline, many seemed at home with the new technology....Multiple-space meters are in use in New York, Houston, San Francisco, and smaller cities, and city leaders have generally praised them, not least because fewer meters make the sidewalks less cluttered."
