Developers have broken ground on the plaza of Central Texas' District, a $1 billion “live-work-play destination,” Molly Wilhelm writes for Houston Chronicle. When complete, the plaza will house up to 14 restaurants and lifestyle brands in six buildings.

“At full buildout, The District will feature three million square feet of office space, 150,000 square feet of retail, 300 hotel rooms and 1,500 upscale residential units across 65 acres. It's expected to create more than 5,000 permanent jobs,” Houston Chronicle reports.

Texas officials say The District will be “a dynamic, walkable destination where business, lifestyle, and culture collide.” Developer Mark IV Capital expects to finish construction on the plaza in 2028.
