City officials in Richmond, Virginia hope a new Minor League Baseball stadium and event venue will serve as the anchor of a vibrant mixed-use 'Diamond District,' reports Brendan King for CBS 6 Richmond.
The planned development, a private-public partnership, will include 161 middle-income housing units and 730 market-rate units. The city sold roughly $130 million in bonds to finance the construction of CarMax Park and spent $40 million in city and state funding on adjacent infrastructure. Richmond director of economic development Angie Rodgers said the stadium alone is expected to net $430 in revenue over 20 years after the bonds are paid off.
