The city is working on a multiyear overhaul of its Unified Development Ordinance.
The Asheville, North Carolina city council will consider several zoning amendments, including one that would remove parking minimums.
As Will Hofmann explains in Asheville Citizen Times, other proposals would allow larger accessory dwelling units and allow duplexes in all residential districts. According to City Planning Director Stephanie Monson-Dahl, the amendments would also create a “vulnerability index” to measure potential displacement.
The changes are part of the city’s overhaul of its Unified Development Ordinance. “The next step in the city's UDO overhaul includes updating the city's comprehensive plan to align with long-term changes made to development regulations, Monson-Dahl said during the March 26 meeting.”
