Few facilities rank as beloved as dog parks among lovers of canine companionship.

"Dog parks can be a real treat for your pup — and for you: While Fido runs around and tussles with pals, you get a chance to rub elbows with fellow dog lovers," reads the introduction to a new study by lawn service company LawnStarter that ranks the best U.S. "Dog Park Cities" in 2021, using metrics like access, quality, and climate.

Coming in first: San Francisco, followed by Oakland and Portland, Oregon, to ensure an all West Coast top three. The first city on the list that can be found east of the Colorado River is Norfolk, Virginia, at number seven. Tampa, Florida is the only other East Coat city to crack the top ten—and only just, at number ten.

A disappointing showing for Dallas, which came in at 86th on the list, and other North Texas cities was enough to attract the attention of The Dallas Morning News [paywall].
