Mike Schneider reports for the Associated Press as 220 small native Alaskan villages have begun receiving advertising to launch the once-a-decade headcount.
The Census launches in January in remote parts of Alaska because the frozen ground makes transportation easier for Census takers. Counting will officially start in Toksook Bay, a village on the Bering Sea, during the third week of January. The rest of the country will start counting in March.
