According to a news segment by PBS NewsHour, Minneapolis' effort to end single-family zoning in the city is an effort to mitigate the housing shortages arising from growing demand for urban lifestyles. The zoning changes proposed in the Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan take effect on January 1.
