Uber Wants to Return its Autonomous Vehicles to Public Roads

The move comes almost eight months after a self-driving Uber vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian.

Adam Smeltz reports that Uber is trying asking for permission to relaunch its self-driving car tests in Pennsylvania, almost eight months after one of the company's autonomous vehicles struck and killed a pedestrian in Arizona. Uber also laid off 100 self-driving car operators in July.

Uber is seeking a permit to test autonomous vehicles from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Uber is promising new safety measures that include two human backup drivers in every test vehicle.
