Troy, N.Y. -- A drugstore chain is withdrawing its proposal to knock down two historic buildings for a new big-box store.

"The decision was hailed as a victory by preservationists who wanted to save the once-exclusive Riverside Club and the former Freihofer's Bakery that the developer planned to tear down. The Riverside Club was built in 1895; the former Freihofer's factory was constructed in 1913."
