Headquarters campus of Amazon will include housing for homeless who would have been displaced by the company’s purchase of the hotel that included their shelter.

The look of Amazon's new Seattle headquarters has gotten mixed reviews, but a recent announcement "that the company will set aside nearly 50,000 square feet of space for a homeless shelter at its headquarters is hitting a different note," Janine White reports for Next City.
The shelter will be administered by Mary's Place: "The nonprofit currently has a shelter in a former hotel that Amazon owns; that will be torn down to make room for a new office building," White reports. The move will bring some good press to Amazon, which is partly responsible for the jump in property values in that city and has been criticized for the toll it takes on cities and their local retailers.
