The city of Phoenix is expanding the Grid Bike Share system, reports Kathy Ritchie. The city plans to add 200 bicycles, 20 stations, and 10 payment kiosks to the existing system.

According to Ritchie's sources, the expansion will focus on bringing bikeshare facilities into neighborhood. Currently, "most of the existing bike stations are located near bus stops and light rail."

According to an announcement of the news posted on the city of Phoenix website, the expansion will funded by the Federal Highway Administration's Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program and matching funds provided by the city's General Fund.

The announcement also notes that Grid Bike Share has expanded outside of Phoenix, in Mesa and soon into Tempe. The announcement calls Grid a "true regional transportation system."
