Stony Island, located next to Grosse Ile in the Detroit River, is the location for an ongoing habitat restoration effort.
"The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will provide nearly $5 million to help restore fish and wildlife habitat on and around Stony Island in the Detroit River," reports Todd Spangler.
"The money comes in addition to $2.3 million announced in February to restore fish and wildlife habitats in Stony Island’s upper bay," adds Spangler. In addition to the recent funding wins, Michigan's U.S. Senate delegation is also pursuing the Great Lakes Fishery Research Authorization Act to authorize even more funding for research into invasive species, habitat conservation, and fisheries management.
