Operation Silent Night cracks down on noise pollution in New York City.
"After seven weeks of ferreting out the most cacophonous New Yorkers, the Bloomberg administration is planning to expand its antinoise campaign... In singling out those who make excessive noise, the police have uncovered other crimes, Mr. Feinblatt said. For instance, bars with noisy patrons often serve minors, noisy people in a park are sometimes armed and noisy neighbors are sometimes selling drugs... But noise is more often simply annoying and is a quality-of-life crime that particularly vexes city dwellers, who look to their abodes as shelters from the urban caterwauling they often endure all day.
