The bus rapid transit route connecting Downtown Detroit with Ann Arbor, or also the Detroit Metro Airport, is under consideration as part of a master planning effort by the Regional Transit Agency.
Alan Stam reports on the early design concepts for a bus rapid transit (BRT) route on Michigan Avenue in Detroit, with designs by Human Scale Studio for its client the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan (RTA).
The action by the RTA is news for political reasons as well. The relatively new board, with 10 members representing Detroit, Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw, has had trouble in the past delivering products to the public.
The recently released plans for Michigan Avenue are part of a master planning effort, led by the RTA, to develop "concepts for Bus Rapid Transit, protected bike lanes and other improvements on three Detroit routes," according to Stam. The Michigan Avenue BRT route could potentially travel from downtown to Ann Arbor or to the Detroit Metro Airport.
