NYC's Public Toilets Plan Criticized

Critics disagree with a plan to coordinate street furniture and install public toilets in New York.

The proposal would grant a franchise to a single company to design, install and maintain bus shelters, newsstands, news racks, benches and automatic public toilets... Its supporters say that it would reduce clutter and coordinate the overall appearance of the city's streets, as well as provide a financial incentive for a private company to maintain the structures while generating revenue for the city... But critics yesterday took on everything from what should be in the proposal to who should build the structures and how they should look.
