Since 2010, planners, designers, and community members have been actively transforming Seattle's alleys into beloved places within the city's urban fabric.
Miguel Otárola reports on a "alley activation" effort underway for about a dozen alleys across the city, "in hopes of renovating their character, as well as their physical appearance."
Seattle's effort follows in the footsteps of cities like Chicago, San Francisco and Fort Collins, Colo., according to Otárola.
