"The HUD Secretary’s Opportunity and Empowerment Award honors planning projects that have helped create communities of lasting value," according to a post by Lauren Pollack in describing an award is presented every year by APA and HUD as one of the APA's National Planning Awards.

Pollack provides a brief summary of the winning projects from each of the years since 2005 that the award has been in existence.
