Cardinal Roger Mahoney discusses the design and planning behind the most expensive Catholic Cathedral in the U.S.
The genius of Moneo has been extraordinary to see -- how an artist and architect can envision all of this in his mind and all the proportions, it's simply unbelievable. I just don't know how they do it. It's been more than I expected. The inside has a warmth and a prayerfulness and peacefulness to it that I wasn't sure we would reach... One of the purposes of the cathedral is to be a common ground for the community, but also to be the community's sacred space. In order to make both of those come together, we had to have signs and symbols that welcomed other faith traditions."
