Spin-Offs: Anchor Employers as Drivers to the Start-Up Economy
International Economic Development Council
June 7-9, 2015 │ Madison, WI
The 2015 Economic Future Forum, themedThe Ingredients for Success, is going to be held June 7-9, in Madison, Wisconsin. Attendees will analyze trends in existing and emerging industries, while learning how to foster and grow industry clusters in their own communities. One concept we’ll be exploring in-depth is entrepreneurship and the “Start-Up Economy”.
Anchor employers bring with them the technical knowledge and resources to give a jumpstart to your local economy, but the benefits do not have to stop there. Inside the landmark businesses in your community, employees are increasing their technical knowledge and innovating on the job. When the time is right, entrepreneurial employees can strike out on their own and establish new companies. This session at the Economic Future Forum will look at what your EDO can do support successful spin-offs.
Attendees of this session will learn:
- Which industries are most likely to result in spin-offs
- Regulatory, policy and other business climate considerations you need to be aware of
- Business assistance needs to help propel spin-offs off the ground
Speakers include:
Carol Lauffer, Partner, Business Cluster Development, Palo Alto, CA
David Ryan, Executive Director, Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development Corporation, Salisbury, MD
Kim Zeuli, Senior Vice President, Research & Advisory Practice, Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, Roxbury, MA
